Jute rugs

Jute adds a natural, textured layer to a room without the weight or pattern of a wool rug, and its plant-fibre construction is a more sustainable, renewable alternative to synthetic piles. It’s an easy, versatile base for both minimalist and layered looks, and it tends to sit at a lower price point than hand-knotted rugs – a practical way to bring warmth and texture into a room without a big spend.

Our jute rug range spans natural neutrals like beige and off-white through to bolder shades such as green, blue, purple and multicolour mixes. Designs run from plain flatwoven jute to ribbed and textured weaves, plus floral and striped patterns for more visual interest, so you can go for a subtle, natural look or something bolder.

It depends on the room and how you’re using it. A small jute rug works well by a bed or reading chair, while large and extra large sizes anchor a living room seating area. A circular or round jute rug suits a coffee table or reading nook, and a jute runner is the natural choice for a hallway. Check our rug size guide if you’re between sizes.

Jute holds up reasonably well in everyday living spaces, but it’s softer and less hard-wearing than wool, so very heavy foot traffic will show wear faster. It’s a fine choice for pets day to day, though claws can occasionally snag the loose weave – for a busier household, a low-pile or flatweave rug can last longer.
