Hallway rugs

It depends on the size shape of the space. For a wider entrance, a small hallway rug works well in a tighter porch or landing, while a large hallway rug suits a more open entrance space. Whichever size you choose, leave a few centimetres of clear floor between the rug’s edge and your skirting boards.

Measure the length of your hallway and subtract around 15–20 cm from each end so the rug doesn’t sit flush against doorways or skirting. Most hallway runners come in 250 cm or 300 cm lengths; for longer corridors, look for 350 cm or up to 500 cm options.

A runner rug for the hallway is the natural fit for a corridor-shaped spaces, guiding movement from one end to the other. If your entrance is more of an open square or rectangle, a round or square hallway rug will anchor the space better than a long, narrow shape.

Jute hallway rugs are one of the most popular choices – naturally hard-wearing, low-pile and easy to sweep clean, which suits heavy daily footfall. Wool rugs for hallways are a good alternative if you want something similarly durable but softer underfoot and naturally stain-resistant.
