Kazak rugs

Kazak rugs are traditional hand-knotted rugs originating from the Caucasus region, known for their durability, bold geometric designs, and strong colours. Made mainly from high-quality wool, they combine traditional craftsmanship with everyday practicality. Our collection of Kazak rugs offers a variety of sizes and traditional designs, from compact pieces to large area rugs suited for living rooms, dining spaces, and bedrooms.

The origin of Kazak rugs

The origin of Kazak rugs comes from the Caucasus region, an area with a long tradition of handwoven textiles. They were traditionally woven by local communities for practical household use, which influenced their durable construction and clear, structured designs. Over time, Kazak rugs became appreciated beyond their region of origin for their large geometric medallions, lasting craftsmanship, and bold colour contrasts, traditionally created using natural dyes such as madder and indigo. These qualities continue to define them today.

How to choose a Kazak rug for your home

Choosing the right Kazak rug comes down to size, colour intensity and placement. The right choice can define your space and create a confident focal point.

Select the right size: Choose a size that defines your layout and anchors your furniture. Large Kazak rugs create a powerful focal point, while smaller sizes add warmth and structure without dominating the room.
Consider colour intensity: Traditional Kazak rugs often feature deep reds, strong blues and earthy tones. Opt for vibrant contrasts to make a statement, or select more muted variations for a balanced, refined look.
Think about placement and traffic: Thanks to their dense wool construction, Kazak rugs are well suited to high-traffic areas such as living rooms, dining spaces and hallways. If you’re looking for a durable rug that combines bold design with everyday practicality, a Kazak is an excellent choice.

What is a Kazak Ariana rug?

A Kazak Ariana rug is a higher-grade version of the traditional Kazak carpet, made using thicker, high-quality wool and a denser weaving technique.

Kazak Ariana rugs are valued for their robust structure, comfortable feel underfoot, and suitability for everyday use. While they maintain the character of traditional Kazak rugs, their improved construction makes them a practical choice for spaces that require both durability and lasting appeal.

How to care for your Kazak rug

Because Kazak rugs are made from dense wool, regular gentle care helps preserve their structure and vibrant colours.

Hoover gently using suction only to protect the dense wool pile.
Rotate regularly to ensure even wear in high-traffic areas.
Limit direct sunlight to preserve vibrant reds and blues.
Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth — never rub.
Use an anti-slip for added protection and cushioning.
Opt for professional cleaning when deeper care is required.
