Buy kitchen rugs & runners: Washable & durable

Kitchen rugs need to handle more spills, dropped food and foot traffic than a rug in almost any other room. Our range spans hard-wearing, easy-clean materials through to warmer, more textured options, including washable designs that combine style and practicality. Explore our collection below to find the perfect kitchen rug for your space.

Our kitchen rugs and runners

A kitchen rug earns its keep by cushioning the spot where you stand most – at the sink, hob or worktop. They take the daily wear that would otherwise mark bare flooring, which is why they’re popular in kitchens with hard tile, wood or stone floors. Our range spans flatweave designs that sit flat and resist bunching, including a huge variety of washable kitchen rugs which offer easy cleaning and maintenance. Our range also boasts a range of kitchen runner rugs — ideal for a galley kitchen or the run in front of units — as well as square and round kitchen rugs that work well by an island or breakfast nook.

Frequently asked questions

Yes – a rug for the kitchen works well, adding warmth, comfort underfoot and some protection for the floor from scuffs and spills. Low-pile, easy-clean designs are popular choices, just make sure to keep the rug away from areas that get consistently wet, like directly in front of the sink.

Put it in front of the spots you stand at longest – the sink, the hob or a stretch of worktop – where the extra cushioning makes the biggest difference. Keep it a little clear of the hob or oven itself, since fabric too close to open flames or hot pans is a fire risk, and leave a small gap from the sink edge so it isn’t sitting in splashed water. A kitchen runner suits a galley layout well, while a round kitchen rug works better in front of an island or breakfast bar.

The best rugs to put in a kitchen are low-pile, durable and easy to clean, since kitchens see more spills and foot traffic than most rooms. Washable kitchen rugs made from cotton or synthetic materials are are practical and popular choices, and a busier pattern will hide everyday marks better than a plain, pale one.

Kitchen rugs are designed to be easy to keep clean, since the room sees more spills and crumbs than most. Shake off loose dirt and crumbs regularly and hoover on a setting suited to the pile height. For a spill or stain, blot it as soon as possible rather than rubbing. Many of our kitchen rugs are also machine washable and can typically be machine washed up to 30°C. Always check the product’s care label for the recommended cleaning method.
