How to clean bath mats

Your bath mat undergoes daily adventures – feet strolls, toothpaste mishaps, hair acrobatics, and more. As it’s often under appreciated, we forget to give it the TLC it deserves. Fret not! Here’s a guide on how to clean bath mats and keep them fabulously fresh:

How often should I clean bathroom rugs?

We recommend washing your bath mat regularly. They can become cosy homes of mould, bacteria, and unwanted odours if left uncared for. After a relaxing shower, the last thing you need is to step onto a grimy mat or brush your teeth amid a pool of hair. Make weekly washing a habit to ensure your bath rug stays consistently fresh, fluffy and clean.

Give it a good shake outside

Keep your bath mat spick and span by giving it an occasional shake outdoors between washes. This simple step is one of the best ways to clean a bath mat, helping to rid it of trapped debris, hair, and dust and ensure a cleaner and fresher mat.

How to handle spills and stains

Bath mats are prone to accidents, perhaps more than other rugs. The key is swift action to prevent stains from becoming permanent. Grab an undyed, damp white cloth and gently dab the affected area. Avoid rubbing, as this could drive the spill deeper into the fibres.

Machine-Washable Bath Mats

Cleaning washable bath mats is a breeze – simply toss them into the washing machine at 30°C. Be sure to check the washing instructions beforehand, as recommendations can change depending on whether you have a synthetic bath mat or cotton bath mat.

When should I buy a new bath mat for the wet room?

Regularly check your bath rug, especially if it has a latex backing, for any cracks. If you notice cracks, it could start peeling off during washing, indicating it’s time to invest in a new one.
