AbadehHand KnottedRug

Black / Dark red100 x 155 cm

The Abadeh rug takes its name from the city of Abadeh, located in the Fars province of the Middle East. This region has long been a crossroads for nomadic tribes and settled artisans, leading to a unique aesthetic that blends the spontaneity of tribal weaving with the more formal, calculated precision of city-based workshops.

Technical quality in these rugs is often defined by the use of high-grade Wool on a sturdy foundation. The specific knotting techniques employed in this region allow for a finer, more detailed pattern than many other tribal styles, resulting in a product that is both visually complex and structurally sound for high-traffic areas.

Signature design elements of the Abadeh tradition often include a central medallion surrounded by smaller, stylised motifs such as birds, flowers, and animals. These are not merely decorative but often hold traditional significance, reflecting the weaver's environment and cultural stories. The borders are typically ornate, framing the field with repeating geometric patterns that provide a sense of order and symmetry.

Collectors value Abadeh rugs for their ability to tell a story through their patterns and for the high level of skill required to produce them. Owning one is an investment in a living tradition, representing a bridge between the nomadic past and the modern home. It is a piece that carries cultural weight and enduring quality.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused labour to every piece. With a density of 250,000 knots per m2, the precision required to execute these complex patterns is immense. Each knot is placed individually, a process that ensures the design remains crisp and the pile remains resilient against daily use.

The construction quality is further reflected in its substantial 4.7 kg weight, which signals a dense and high-quality foundation. This significant use of materials, combined with the thousands of hours of human effort, results in a floor covering that possesses both structural integrity and a luxurious, dense pile that is meant to endure for generations.
