Bakhtiar Fine - A Century of Warmth for Your Home

Discover a genuine antique Bakhtiari rug, woven around 1910 in Persia. This one-of-a-kind piece brings rich history and tactile comfort to your living space.
Step onto the rich history of this antique Bakhtiari rug, originating from Persia around 1910. With over a century of heritage, this piece brings a profound sense of grounded authenticity and a lived-in warmth to any room in your home.
Crafted from 100% wool, the 14 mm thick pile offers a remarkably plush and cushioned feel underfoot. This dense natural wool construction provides exceptional sound absorption, softening footsteps and creating a cosier, more tranquil atmosphere in your living area or bedroom.
The rug features a traditional knot density of 160,000 knots per m2, which creates a tightly packed pile that stands up to daily life while maintaining its soft, inviting texture. This high level of density ensures the intricate design remains crisp and the fibres stay supportive for years to come.
Because this is a genuine one-of-a-kind creation, no other home will ever have this exact rug. The specific variations in tone and motif tell the story of the artisan who made it, ensuring you own a truly personal piece of textile art that can never be replicated.
Bakhtiari rugs originate from the rugged Zagros mountain region in Persia, traditionally crafted by the Bakhtiari nomadic and village tribes. For generations, these weavers have drawn inspiration from the natural world surrounding their encampments, translating gardens, wildlife, and ancient symbols into enduring wool floor coverings.
The historical technique relies on hand-knotting wool onto a sturdy foundation, a method designed to produce textiles that could withstand harsh mountain winters and nomadic life. Over the decades, these regional workshops developed distinct aesthetic markers, balancing geometric order with organic floral motifs.
A defining visual characteristic of Bakhtiari carpets is the panel design, often divided into repeating garden compartments, alongside central medallion layouts filled with stylised blossoms and vines. The rich red and dark green tones found in this piece are typical of the natural dye traditions historically favoured in the region.
Collecting a vintage Bakhtiari rug means preserving a tangible piece of tribal artistry and cultural heritage. These rugs are valued by collectors and interior stylists alike for their sturdy construction, rich historical narratives, and the way their character deepens gracefully with age.
This rug is entirely handmade using traditional hand-knotted techniques passed down through generations in Persia. Skilled artisans hand-tied each of the 160,000 knots per m2, bringing the grand total to roughly 470,000 individual knots across the 210 x 140 cm surface.
A project of this scale requires months of dedicated human labour and precise mathematical planning. The artisans work meticulously from memory or pattern boards, carefully packing each row of knots down to secure the foundation and build a durable, resilient pile.
The substantial weight of 11.2 kg reflects the dense concentration of natural wool and the robust structural integrity invested in the weaving process. This rigorous hand-crafting method results in a heavy, stable rug that lies flat and holds its shape reliably over decades of use.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.

Cotton

Cotton is a natural material that makes them a suitable option for people with allergies. The material is soft, durable and resilient, which makes them practical and comfortable for high-traffic areas such as the hallway, kitchen, and bathroom.
