Bokhara 2ply - Crafted to Last a Lifetime

Discover a genuinely unique hand-knotted Bokhara 2ply rug from Pakistan, featuring classic repeating gul motifs and a rich red tone.

This genuine one-of-a-kind rug brings a warm and grounding focal point to your room, offering an inviting tactile experience underfoot. Measuring 256 x 170 cm with a comfortable 9 mm pile, it adds natural softness and warmth to living spaces while helping to absorb sound for a quieter home.

Crafted entirely from 100% wool, the dense pile delivers natural resilience and a reassuringly substantial weight of 10.9 kg. This high-density construction means the rug stays securely in place while offering lasting comfort for everyday family life.

Featuring a traditional 160000 knots per m2 density, the knot structure creates exceptional pattern clarity and a tightly packed pile that stands up to daily wear. This level of craftsmanship ensures the surface retains its supportive feel and rich appearance over years of use.

Because each piece is individually crafted by hand, this exact rug exists nowhere else in the world. No two pieces are identical, meaning you are welcoming an authentic work of art with its own distinct character into your home.

Bokhara rugs take their name from the ancient Silk Road city of Bukhara in Central Asia, historically a major trading hub where nomadic and settled weaving traditions met. Over generations, weavers migrated and carried these distinctive design patterns across borders, with Pakistan growing into a renowned centre for producing some of the finest examples available today.

The 2ply designation refers to the construction method where two individual strands of wool are twisted together before being knotted into the pile. This two-ply technique produces a denser, stronger, and more resilient surface compared to single-ply yarns, helping the rug maintain its rich texture and appearance over decades of daily use.

The visual language of this tradition is defined by repeating gul motifs, which are octagonal or elephant-foot medallions arranged in neat rows across the field. Enclosed by formal geometric borders, this specific red colourway offers a striking and traditional look that brings cultural depth to any interior.

Owning a hand-knotted rug from this heritage tradition means acquiring a piece of living history rooted in centuries of artisan skill. Collectors and homeowners value these pieces for their enduring quality, cultural significance, and the remarkable patience required to bring each traditional motif to life.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted by skilled artisans who tie each knot individually onto the foundation, requiring months of dedicated human labor. The precision of this technique determines the crispness of the traditional pattern and the density of the finished pile.

With a knot density of 160000 knots per m2 across the 256 x 170 cm dimensions, the makers have placed hundreds of thousands of individual knots by hand. This intensive process results in a robust and tightly bound structure that machine-made alternatives simply cannot replicate.

The combination of the fine knot count and the substantial 10.9 kg weight reflects the immense time and skill invested in every square centimetre. This careful hand-weaving tradition ensures a durable and resilient floor covering built to serve your home for generations.
