Beige / Dark blue60 x 90 cm

Chinese rug weaving has a long and storied history, evolving over centuries to become a distinct art form celebrated globally. Traditionally, these rugs were influenced by the artistic aesthetics of the imperial courts, often featuring symbolism rooted in nature and philosophy. Today, the tradition continues to thrive, blending historical techniques with designs that resonate in modern homes.

The term '90 Line' refers to a specific traditional density standard used in Chinese rug production. This measurement indicates the number of knots per linear foot, a technical detail that directly influences the sharpness of the patterns and the overall durability of the pile. This standardised approach ensures that the finished product meets high quality benchmarks while maintaining the authentic hand-knotted character that collectors value.

Signature design elements of Chinese rugs often include floral arrangements, clouds, and mythical motifs rendered in clear, balanced compositions. The use of a carved pile to create a sense of depth and relief is a hallmark of this tradition, adding a tactile dimension that makes the floral patterns appear to lift from the field. This specific piece showcases the classic floral elegance that has defined the region's output for generations.

Owning a hand-knotted rug from this tradition is an invitation to enjoy a piece of cultural heritage that values patience and precision. These rugs are highly regarded by collectors not only for their aesthetic appeal but for the sheer human effort required to bring them to life. By acquiring this piece, you are supporting a legacy of craft that prioritises quality and artistic expression above all else.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate significant time and effort to every single piece. This labour-intensive process ensures a high level of detail and structural integrity, resulting in a durable pile that maintains its plush appearance over time.

The construction reflects a deep commitment to traditional techniques, where each knot is placed by hand to form the intricate floral design. This level of craftsmanship is evidenced by the density of the 2.7 kg weight across its 90 x 60 cm frame, demonstrating the substantial amount of material and human effort invested in its creation.
