China 90 LineShaggyRug

Brown / Orange60 x 90 cm

The tradition of rug weaving in China is centuries old, with a focus on harmony, balance, and the integration of artistic motifs. Historically, these rugs were often commissioned for palaces and temples, serving as symbols of status and refined taste. Over time, the craft evolved to incorporate influences from both classical Chinese art and global design trends.

The term '90 Line' refers to a traditional system of measuring the density of the weave. This technical standard denotes the number of knots per linear foot, which dictates the fineness of the pattern and the overall durability of the pile. Understanding this measurement helps one appreciate the consistent quality and the deliberate, step-by-step construction that defines these pieces.

Visually, these rugs are celebrated for their distinctive floral designs and sculptural quality. The patterns often feature lush roses and intricate botanical arrangements that appear to float above the field, sometimes accentuated by carved pile techniques that add depth and dimension to the surface.

Owning a hand-knotted rug from this tradition is a way to connect with a legacy of patience and artistic expression. These pieces are highly valued by collectors for their blend of historical design elements and the human touch that no modern machine can perfectly mirror.

This rug is carefully hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate significant time and precision to each individual knot. The process of creating such a piece is deeply labour-intensive, requiring a high level of expertise to ensure the floral patterns are rendered with clarity and grace.

With a weight of 2.7 kg, this rug demonstrates the substantial amount of material and effort invested in its creation. The density of the construction is a direct result of this dedicated craftsmanship, ensuring a robust and well-made floor covering that stands up to daily use while retaining its structural integrity.
