Orange / Black91 x 152 cm

The tradition of Chinese rug weaving is an ancient art form that has evolved over centuries, deeply rooted in the cultural and artistic expressions of the region. Known for their distinct aesthetic, these rugs often incorporate symbols from Chinese philosophy and nature, creating a narrative that speaks to a history of refinement and symbolic storytelling.

The term 'line' in this context refers to the density and precision of the weaving. This specific style of rug has long been celebrated for its ability to balance artistic composition with functional durability. The focus on balanced proportions and clear, deliberate motifs is a hallmark of the regional tradition, ensuring that each piece feels both intentional and serene.

Visually, these rugs are defined by their use of iconic motifs such as flowers, vases, and classical geometric patterns. These elements are often arranged with a sense of space and poise, allowing the colours to interact softly with the background. The signature deep blue borders often seen in this style serve to frame the central field, lending a sense of structure and depth to the overall design.

Collecting these rugs is an investment in a storied craft that prioritises patience and aesthetic balance. They are valued not just for their appearance, but for the human effort required to bring such intricate designs to life. Owning one is a way to connect with a legacy of artistry that has been passed down through generations of skilled hands.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and skill to ensure every fibre is placed with precision. By building the rug knot by knot, the artisans achieve a level of structural integrity and pattern clarity that simply cannot be matched by modern machine manufacturing.

With a weight of 6.9 kg, this piece demonstrates a significant investment of material and time. The density achieved through this traditional hand-knotting technique ensures that the rug remains durable and resilient, standing up to daily life while maintaining its soft, luxurious texture for years to come.

The labour-intensive nature of hand-knotting means that each piece is the result of many weeks of focused work. This commitment to the craft ensures that the final result is a robust and long-lasting object, crafted with the kind of care that honours the historical traditions of its origin.
