Hamadan rugs take their name from one of the oldest cities in the Middle East, a historic hub located on the ancient trade routes that connected East and West. The region has long been a centre of weaving excellence, where nomadic and village traditions merged to create a distinct style of floor coverings that are celebrated for their variety and endurance.

The term Hamadan refers to a wide array of styles produced in the city and its surrounding hundreds of villages. These rugs are typically recognised for their sturdy construction and the use of high-quality wool, which is often sourced locally. The traditional methods used in this region prioritise a balance between artistic expression and practical utility, ensuring that each rug is as durable as it is beautiful.

Visually, these rugs are often defined by their bold use of geometric motifs, central medallions, and intricate floral patterns that draw inspiration from the surrounding natural landscape. The use of rich reds and earthy beiges is a hallmark of the region, often framed by decorative borders that anchor the design. This particular rug captures that classic look, offering a window into the aesthetic language that has been refined over centuries.

Collecting a rug from this tradition is an investment in cultural history. Each piece represents the individual skill of the weaver and the collective heritage of a region that has preserved its craft through generations. By bringing this rug into your home, you are not just acquiring a floor covering, but a piece of living history that celebrates the human element in every single knot.

This piece is entirely hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and a high degree of skill. By securing each knot by hand, the artisan ensures that the pile is locked firmly into the foundation, resulting in a robust structure that resists wear and maintains its integrity for years to come.

With a total area of approximately 1.88 m2 and a significant weight of 6.6 kg, the density of this rug is a testament to the amount of high-quality wool used and the effort invested in its creation. This weight is a clear indicator of the density of the construction, providing a heavy, substantial feel that signifies a superior level of craft compared to lighter, mass-produced alternatives.
