Originating from a region with a deep-rooted history of weaving, this rug carries the soul of Middle Eastern craft tradition. Owning this piece means holding a connection to a long-standing legacy of skill, where every detail is designed to be cherished for years to come.

The Hamadan region in the Middle East is one of the oldest and most prolific centres for rug weaving in the world. Located in a mountainous area with a long history of nomadic and village weaving, Hamadan rugs are known for their diversity and the use of traditional, hardy materials that reflect the rugged beauty of the landscape.

The term Shahrbaf refers to a specific, elevated standard of weaving often found in urban workshops within the region. Unlike more rustic village pieces, Shahrbaf rugs are characterised by more refined designs, thinner foundations, and a higher level of detail, representing the pinnacle of the local weaving tradition.

Design-wise, these rugs often feature a central medallion surrounded by floral sprays and intricate vines. The use of repeating motifs and formal borders is a hallmark of the style, creating a sense of balance and harmony. The inclusion of pictorial elements like small house motifs adds a layer of narrative and charm that is unique to the area's storytelling traditions.

Collecting a Hamadan Shahrbaf is an investment in cultural heritage. These rugs are highly valued for their blend of artistic creativity and technical prowess. To own one is to support a craft that has survived for centuries, keeping alive the techniques and aesthetics that define the rich textile history of the Middle East.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who have honed their craft over generations. The process is incredibly time-intensive, requiring a high level of precision and patience to ensure the integrity of the design and the long-term durability of the finished piece.

With a density of 250,000 knots per m2, the craftsmanship is evident in the sharpness of the patterns and the resilience of the pile. This high knot count requires months of dedicated effort, resulting in a robust structure that holds its form and beauty even with frequent use.

The significant weight of 6.2 kg for this size serves as a testament to the generous amount of materials used and the density of the construction. This substantial quality ensures that the rug lies flat and remains a reliable, high-performing foundation for your home for many years.
