The Ilam Sherkat Farsh tradition represents a significant chapter in the storied history of Middle Eastern rug weaving. Originating from areas known for their sophisticated textile output, these rugs are celebrated for their balanced compositions and harmonious colour palettes. They embody a long-standing cultural dedication to beauty and functional art.

The term 'Sherkat Farsh' refers to the organised weaving initiatives that sought to maintain high standards of quality and design consistency. This institutional approach to weaving ensured that traditional techniques were preserved while allowing for the refinement of patterns. The result is a consistent level of excellence that defines the category.

Signature design elements of these rugs often include elaborate floral motifs, intricate scrolling vines, and well-defined borders that frame the central field. The use of deep, resonant colours is a hallmark of the style, often creating a dramatic contrast that draws the eye toward the centre. These patterns are not merely decorative but are deeply symbolic of regional aesthetic values.

Owning an Ilam Sherkat Farsh rug is an investment in heritage and skill. These pieces are highly valued by collectors for their consistency in quality and their ability to bridge the gap between traditional history and contemporary home styling. By acquiring this rug, you are preserving a craft that has been refined over generations.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused effort to its creation. Each individual knot is placed by hand, a labour-intensive process that ensures the structural integrity and longevity of the piece. This traditional method allows for the creation of complex, detailed patterns that machines simply cannot replicate.

The weight of 8.8 kg across its 210 x 140 cm dimensions speaks to the density and quality of materials used. This significant weight indicates a high concentration of material, which translates to a more robust and long-lasting rug. The time invested in securing each knot is what gives this piece its superior durability and fine, elegant finish.

The precision required to manage the tension and knot placement across the entire surface is a testament to the weaver's expertise. By choosing this hand-knotted rug, you are supporting a craft tradition that prioritises quality and longevity above all else, resulting in a floor covering that is built to withstand the test of time.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.

Cotton

Cotton is a natural material that makes them a suitable option for people with allergies. The material is soft, durable and resilient, which makes them practical and comfortable for high-traffic areas such as the hallway, kitchen, and bathroom.

Silk

Silk is an exclusive natural fibre that provides a soft and shiny feeling to rugs. The material can also be used to enhance details in wool rugs and in some, silk can make up the entire pile and sometimes even the warp. Elegant rugs with rich details can only be made with silk because other fibres are too thick for this purpose. Silk is a durable and hard-wearing fibre that lasts a long time and becomes more beautiful over time. Due to its sensitivity to liquids, it is advisable to refrain from positioning the rug in areas where there is a high likelihood of moisture or potential spills.
