Black / Dark red140 x 216 cm

Isfahan rugs originate from the historic city of Isfahan in the Middle East, a former capital known for its profound influence on arts and architecture. This region has long been a centre for refined textile production, where the tradition of weaving has been perfected over centuries to reflect the elegance of courtly life and classic design sensibilities.

The term Isfahan denotes a standard of quality that is globally recognised for its incredible precision. These rugs are renowned for their fine construction, often featuring a very high knot count that allows for the fluid, curved lines seen in their signature floral and vine-work patterns, distinguishing them from the more geometric styles found in other weaving traditions.

Visually, Isfahan rugs are celebrated for their balanced compositions, typically centering on a complex medallion surrounded by lush, flowing floral sprays and intricate arabesques. The borders are often as detailed as the field, featuring harmonious patterns that frame the central design and demonstrate the immense skill required to maintain such symmetry and detail across the entire surface.

Collecting an antique Isfahan is akin to acquiring a piece of cultural heritage. These rugs are highly valued not only for their beauty but for the immense human effort and artistic vision they represent. To own one is to participate in a long-standing tradition of excellence, preserving a level of craft that remains a benchmark for quality in the world of fine rugs.

Expertly crafted through a meticulous hand-knotted process, this rug represents hundreds of hours of dedicated labour by skilled artisans. The complexity of the floral design requires immense concentration and precision, ensuring that every curve and colour transition is rendered with absolute clarity.

With a density of 640,000 knots per m2, the construction is incredibly robust and fine. This high knot count is the primary reason the rug maintains such detailed patterns and a luxurious pile, ensuring it remains a durable, high-quality foundation for your home for generations to come.

The substantial weight of 9.1 kg for this 216 x 140 cm piece highlights the quality of the materials and the density of the knotting. This weight is a testament to the effort invested in the piece, providing a stable, high-performance rug that feels substantial and well-made underfoot.
