Jozan rugs hail from the Malayer region in the Middle East, an area famed for producing some of the most sophisticated and finely crafted textiles in the region. These rugs are highly regarded for their balance of tribal spontaneity and formal precision, often reflecting the unique cultural tapestry of the villages where they are woven.

The term Jozan refers to a specific village tradition known for a high standard of knotting. This technique results in a sturdy, long-lasting structure that protects the pile, ensuring the rug remains a beautiful part of your home for generations. The quality of the construction is a hallmark of this tradition, reflecting the pride of the artisans who pass these methods down through families.

Visually, these rugs are defined by their complex geometric motifs and vibrant colour palettes. You will often see repeating diamond shapes and medallions, which are carefully balanced across the field. This specific design is a classic example of the tradition, showcasing a masterful use of space and colour that is both harmonious and visually engaging.

Collectors value Jozan rugs for their authenticity and the human story behind every knot. Owning one is an opportunity to preserve a piece of history, as these rugs are not mass-produced but are the result of deep-seated local customs. They represent a bridge between the past and present, offering a sense of heritage that mass-market items simply cannot replicate.

This Jozan rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense skill and patience. With a density of 160.000 knots per m2, the creation of this 5.8 m2 piece involves approximately 928.000 individual hand-tied knots. This level of precision ensures that the intricate patterns remain sharp and well-defined, while also creating a remarkably dense and durable foundation.

The labour-intensive nature of this craft reflects the dedication of the artisans involved. Given the complexity of the design and the density of the knotting, this rug represents months of focused work. This commitment to traditional techniques is what gives the rug its exceptional structural integrity and ensures that it is built to withstand the test of time.
