KashmarHand KnottedRug

Brown / Black202 x 292 cm

Kashmar rugs hail from the historic city of Kashmar in the Khorasan province of the Middle East. This region has long been celebrated for a unique approach to rug design that often draws inspiration from classic architecture and historical monuments, resulting in patterns that feel both grand and deeply rooted in local tradition.

The craft of these rugs is defined by their technical precision and the use of high-quality materials. Traditionally, these rugs feature a dense construction that allows for incredibly fine and complex curvilinear patterns. This density is key to their longevity, as it creates a sturdy foundation that protects the rug against wear while allowing the colours to remain vibrant over many decades.

Visually, the Kashmar is famous for its elaborate medallion designs, often surrounded by intricate floral sprays and botanical motifs that sprawl across the field. These designs are frequently inspired by ancient tiles and decorative wall panels, giving the rug a sense of depth and structural balance that is distinct within the landscape of Middle Eastern textiles.

Owning a Kashmar is more than just purchasing a floor covering; it is an investment in a living heritage. These rugs are highly valued by collectors for their commitment to classical design and the immense human effort required to complete each one. By bringing a piece like this into your home, you are continuing a legacy of artistry that has been passed down through generations of master weavers.

This rug is carefully hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused effort to its creation. By tying every single knot by hand, the weaver ensures a level of structural integrity and pattern precision that simply cannot be achieved through mechanical means.

The substantial weight of 29.5 kg for this 292 x 202 cm piece is a testament to the density and quantity of material used in its construction. This significant weight is a direct indicator of the high-quality, dense pile that provides both the luxurious feel underfoot and the long-term durability required for a lifetime of use.

The time and skill invested in creating this rug are reflected in every line and motif. Each section is meticulously constructed to ensure the design remains sharp and the pile stays resilient, creating a piece that honours traditional techniques while providing a reliable and lasting addition to your home.
