Kashmir silk rugs are celebrated globally for their connection to the legendary textile traditions of Northern India. This region has long been a crossroads of artistic influence, where centuries of refined craftsmanship have evolved into a distinct style characterised by incredible detail and the use of the finest materials.

The term hand-knotted refers to the traditional method where artisans tie individual threads to the foundation, creating a pile that is incredibly robust. This method is preferred for its ability to produce intricate, permanent designs that hold their form and colour much better than any other construction technique.

The visual language of these rugs is often defined by the medallion motif, a central feature surrounded by intricate floral vines and ornate borders. This specific rug features a deep blue field, a classic choice that highlights the shimmering quality of the silk and provides a sophisticated contrast to the lighter floral details.

Collecting a rug from this tradition is an investment in human skill and cultural history. These pieces are valued for their enduring quality and the way they represent the dedication of the weaver, making them more than just floor coverings, but significant heirlooms that carry the warmth and history of their origin.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and a high level of technical precision. The artisan carefully ties each individual knot by hand, building the intricate floral pattern row by row over many months to ensure the final result is as durable as it is beautiful.

With a density of 490,000 knots per m2, the construction is remarkably fine. This high knot count is what allows for the exceptional sharpness of the design and the incredible depth of the decorative borders, creating a surface that is both dense and resistant to everyday wear.

The total weight of 4.4 kg across its 163 x 91 cm dimensions speaks to the significant amount of material and labour invested in this piece. This density is the hallmark of premium craft, ensuring that the rug remains a substantial and resilient part of your home for years to come.

Coton
