Kazak FineHand KnottedRug

Dark yellow / Yellow271 x 368 cm

Kazak rugs trace their rich heritage back to the mountainous regions of the Caucasus, where nomadic and village weavers created striking geometric and floral floor coverings. Over generations, these traditional design motifs travelled along historical trade routes, eventually inspiring skilled makers in other parts of the world, including Afghanistan. Today, Afghan weavers keep these time-honoured traditions alive by hand-knotting pieces that bridge historical aesthetics with modern living needs.

The designation Kazak Fine points to a refined approach within this storied rug-making tradition. Weavers use carefully selected materials and precise knotting techniques to achieve a smoother surface and clearer pattern definition than simpler village weaves. This careful attention to construction details results in a floor covering that balances traditional artistry with enhanced durability.

Signature design elements of this tradition often include bold medallions, structured borders, and repeating botanical motifs that tell a visual story. While traditional palettes frequently lean towards deep reds and blues, this particular piece features a striking yellow field paired with contrasting red borders, showcasing the weaver's creative interpretation within a classical framework.

Owning a handmade Kazak rug means welcoming a piece of living cultural history into your home. Collectors and design enthusiasts prize these rugs for their authentic connection to ancient craft methods and the genuine human story woven into every fibre. It is an investment in heritage that stands apart from mass-produced alternatives.

This rug is entirely handmade through traditional hand-knotted techniques, representing a remarkable investment of human skill and patience. Artisans spend countless hours working on a specialised vertical loom to tie every single knot by hand, ensuring a sturdy and reliable foundation.

With a density of 90,000 knots per m2, approximately 897,294 individual knots make up this expansive rug. This high knot density allows for intricate pattern details and creates a durable pile that resists flattening over years of use.

Weighing 29.9 kg, the substantial weight of this piece reflects the high volume of natural materials packed into its construction. This density ensures that the rug maintains its shape and structural integrity, promising many years of daily enjoyment in your home.
