Keshan - Woven for a Lifetime of Warmth

A truly one-of-a-kind Keshan rug from the Middle East, featuring 100% wool construction and rich traditional craftsmanship.

This Keshan rug brings a deep sense of heritage and calm comfort to your living space. Handcrafted from 100% wool, it offers a remarkably soft and tactile surface that feels wonderful underfoot while providing natural warmth and sound absorption.

The dense pile and substantial weight of 38.2 kg create a solid, reassuring presence on your floor. With a knot density of 160,000 knots per m2, the intricate patterns are rendered with exceptional clarity and sharpness, while ensuring a resilient pile that maintains its beauty and structure through years of daily use.

Originating from the Middle East, this piece carries a rich tradition of fine craftsmanship. The 12 mm thick pile cushions your steps and adds a welcoming layer of comfort to the room.

Because this is a genuinely one-of-a-kind piece, no other rug in the world shares this exact combination of color, nuance, and hand-knotted detail. Owning it means bringing a piece of authentic craft history into your home that can never be replicated.

Keshan rugs originate from the historic city of Kashan in the Middle East, a celebrated hub along ancient trade routes known for master weavers. Over centuries, master artisans in this region refined the art of pile weaving, establishing Keshan as a benchmark for elegance and balance in traditional rug design.

The 100% wool pile is knotted using tried-and-tested techniques passed down through generations. Natural wool fibres are spun and dyed to achieve deep, lasting tones that soften gracefully over time, offering both resilience and a rich, tactile surface.

Classically styled Keshan designs typically feature a central medallion surrounded by elaborate floral motifs, arabesques, and carefully layered borders. The interplay of deep blue and vibrant red fields showcases the traditional regional preference for rich contrast and balanced symmetry.

Collecting a hand-knotted Keshan means owning a piece of enduring cultural history. The combination of expert hand-knotting, premium wool, and timeless design traditions ensures that these rugs remain cherished centerpieces in homes around the world.

Creating a rug of this scale and complexity is a true test of human skill and patience. Crafted entirely by hand using a traditional hand-knotted technique, this piece represents months of focused artisan labour.

With a knot density of 160,000 knots per m2 across a total area of 3.80 by 2.72 metres, artisans have tied approximately 1,652,000 individual knots by hand. This meticulous process requires immense precision and steady hands to secure the 100% wool pile onto the foundation.

The substantial weight of 38.2 kg reflects the generous amount of natural material and dense knotting invested into the construction. This high level of craftsmanship ensures not only a remarkably detailed visual expression but also long-lasting durability for generations to come.
