This rug is ideal for adding a layer of comfort to hardwood or tiled floors. Its low profile makes it a versatile choice for high-traffic areas, hallways, or underneath furniture, where its rich, organic Wool texture provides a welcoming, soft surface for you and your family.

The Kelim tradition in the Middle East is deeply rooted in the cultural fabric of the region, where weaving has served as both a practical necessity and a form of artistic expression for nomadic and village communities for centuries. These rugs are born from a long history of nomadic life, where the ability to create durable, transportable textiles was vital.

The term 'Kelim' refers specifically to a flat-woven technique where the weft threads are woven tightly over the warp to create a smooth, pileless surface. This method requires a high degree of precision, as the weaver must manage the tension and colour changes entirely by hand without the assistance of a pile to hide structural inconsistencies.

Signature design elements in Afghan Kelims often include geometric motifs, such as the diamond shapes seen here, which are frequently arranged in repeating patterns. These designs are not merely decorative but are passed down through families, with each motif often holding symbolic meaning related to protection, fertility, or the natural landscape of the highlands.

Collectors value these rugs for their authenticity and the human story behind every thread. Owning an Afghan Kelim is an investment in a living heritage, as these pieces represent a bridge between ancient techniques and modern interiors, bringing a sense of cultural weight and enduring beauty to any home.

This Kelim is created through a traditional hand-woven process that reflects the dedication of skilled artisans. By interlacing the warp and weft threads manually on a loom, the weaver achieves a tight, flat construction that is renowned for its strength and longevity, ensuring your rug remains a part of your home for years to come.

The weight of 2.9 kg for a 192 x 153 cm size demonstrates the density of the Wool and the care invested in its creation. This weight is a hallmark of authentic craftsmanship, signalling that a significant amount of material and human effort has gone into producing a rug that is both substantial and durable.

The creation of this piece is a labour-intensive endeavour that requires patience, focus, and a deep understanding of traditional weaving techniques. By choosing this hand-woven rug, you are supporting a craft tradition that has been passed down through generations and valuing the time and precision required to produce such a distinctive, high-quality textile.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
