As a one-of-a-kind piece, this rug holds a special place in any interior. Because it was woven by hand, no two examples are ever identical, meaning you are bringing a singular work of art into your home that will never be made again by another hand.

Its origins in Afghanistan are reflected in the depth of its colours and the authenticity of its design. By choosing this runner, you are not just selecting a floor covering, but an authentic piece of tradition that bridges the gap between old-world artistry and modern living requirements.

The Afghan Kelim tradition is deeply rooted in the nomadic cultures of the Middle East, where weaving was a vital skill passed down through generations. These rugs were historically created for practical use in tents and homes, designed to be both portable and incredibly resilient against the harsh conditions of the region.

The term 'Kelim' refers to the flat-weaving technique used to create these pieces, which involves interweaving the warp and weft strands to form a smooth surface without a raised pile. This method results in a lightweight yet strong textile that is prized for its versatility and clear, graphic aesthetic.

Design-wise, these runners are defined by their bold geometric shapes and traditional motifs. The patterns often tell stories of the weaver's environment and cultural heritage, with diamond and medallion shapes serving as classic elements. The use of natural, warm colours, particularly earthy reds, is a hallmark of this tradition, reflecting the dyes historically sourced from local plants and minerals.

Owning an Afghan Kelim is an investment in cultural heritage and human skill. Collectors value these rugs for their authenticity and the way they maintain a connection to ancient weaving practices. Each piece serves as a tactile record of the artisan's vision, making them cherished items that bring a sense of history and soulful character to any contemporary living space.

This runner is created through traditional hand-weaving techniques, a process that requires immense patience and skill. Unlike mass-produced items, each thread is carefully placed by an artisan, resulting in a flat-weave structure that is both remarkably durable and incredibly light.

With a weight of 1.4 kg for its 197 x 70 cm size, this rug demonstrates a high density of material that speaks to its quality. The time and human effort invested in its creation ensure that the intricate geometric patterns remain sharp and the foundation stays robust, offering a long-lasting addition to your home that stands the test of time.
