Originating from long standing weaving traditions this runner carries a rich sense of provenance and human touch.

Owning it means bringing a considered and authentic story into your interior adding both character and practical everyday utility to your home.

The tradition of flatwoven rugs has deep roots across the Middle East and Central Asia where nomadic and village communities developed weaving techniques to create versatile and portable floor coverings.

Afghan artisans have long refined these methods passing down intricate pattern knowledge from generation to generation.

The term kelim refers to a flatwoven textile made without a pile where the pattern is created by tightly interweaving warp and weft threads together.

This technique results in a durable and reversible surface that requires immense precision from the weaver to maintain straight lines and clean geometric colour transitions.

Signature design elements in this tradition often feature bold geometric arrangements such as repeating diamond medallions and tribal borders in earthy and vibrant tones.

These motifs carry symbolic meanings tied to protection family and local folklore connecting modern homes to centuries of cultural heritage.

Collecting vintage and contemporary kelims is valued for their authentic connection to regional craft and the expressive freedom allowed within traditional geometric frameworks.

Owning a piece like this represents an appreciation for enduring skills and the preservation of textile traditions that cannot be replicated by industrial manufacturing.

This runner is entirely handmade through traditional hand woven techniques requiring skilled artisans to interlace every strand by hand on a traditional loom.

Without the aid of machines the weaver carefully passes each yarn through the foundation to build the flatwoven structure line by line.

Weighing 2.3 kg across its 299 x 77 cm dimensions this piece demonstrates a dense and sturdy construction that reflects hours of careful hand labour.

The thoughtful balance of materials and tight weaving ensures the structure remains stable and resilient under everyday foot traffic.

The creation of such a detailed flatwoven piece demands patience precision and deep technical knowledge passed down through generations.

This significant investment of human time and skill is what gives the runner its lasting quality and distinctive character.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
