Kelim Ariana Trend - A Warm Welcome for Your Hallway

Bring colourful character to your home with this unique handmade Afghan runner featuring traditional kilim motifs.

Introduce a sense of calm and tactile warmth to your hallway or narrow living space with this distinctive runner. Measuring 301 x 88 cm with a low 5 mm profile, it fits smoothly beneath most interior doors while offering a comfortable surface underfoot.

Crafted from 100% wool, this piece provides natural resilience and helps to absorb sound in busier areas of the home. The dense flatwoven construction creates a sturdy yet flexible layer that lies flat against the floor.

Because this is a genuinely one-of-a-kind creation, no two rugs are identical. The exact colour combinations and geometric nuances exist nowhere else and once this piece finds a home, it can never be replicated.

Originating from Afghanistan, this runner carries forward a rich heritage of skilled hand-weaving traditions that bring authentic character and grounded beauty to modern interiors.

Kilim flatweaves have a long and storied history rooted in the nomadic and village traditions of the Middle East and Central Asia. Originally created by tribal weavers for practical domestic uses such as floor coverings, saddlebags, and storage sacks, these textiles were crafted using locally sourced materials and natural dyes passed down through generations.

The flatweave technique differs from knotted carpet production in that there is no pile. Instead, the coloured weft threads are tightly wrapped and packed across the vertical warp threads to create crisp, geometric patterns on both sides of the fabric. This method produces a lighter, versatile textile that has remained practical for everyday living for centuries.

Characterised by repeating diamond and geometric motifs, the design language of this Afghan kilim reflects centuries of symbolic storytelling. The intricate interplay of earthy tones combined with vibrant highlights creates the signature visual rhythm found across classic kilim traditions.

Owning a kilim of this provenance means connecting with a living craft heritage. Each piece represents hours of human dedication and an unbroken tradition of artistic expression that adds genuine cultural weight to your interior.

This runner is entirely hand-woven by skilled artisans using traditional flatweaving techniques that require immense patience and precision. Without a pile, the warp and weft threads are tightly interlaced by hand to create a reversible and durable textile.

Weighing 2.6 kg across its 301 x 88 cm frame, the solid construction reflects the substantial amount of physical labour and material density invested in its creation. Every row of geometric motifs is carefully beaten into place by hand, ensuring structural integrity that stands up to daily life.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
