Kilim rugs represent one of the oldest and most respected weaving traditions from the Middle East. These flat-woven textiles were originally created by nomadic tribes, who required durable yet portable floor coverings and wall hangings that could withstand the rigors of a migratory lifestyle.

The defining characteristic of a Kilim is its lack of pile, a result of the unique slit-weave technique. This process involves wrapping the weft threads around the warp threads to create the design, which produces a thin, lightweight, and reversible rug that is prized for its versatility and functional longevity.

Visually, this rug tradition is known for its bold, geometric language. While many traditional examples feature complex tribal motifs, the striped pattern seen here is a classic expression of the craft, emphasizing the inherent beauty of the material and the meticulous precision of the weaver.

Owning a Kilim is an invitation to connect with a rich cultural heritage. These rugs are not merely floor coverings but are documented pieces of textile history, valued by collectors for their authenticity, the skill required in their creation, and the enduring quality of their natural materials.

This rug is entirely hand-woven, a traditional method that relies on the skill and steady rhythm of the weaver. By passing the weft threads over and under the warp threads, the artisan creates a tight, interlocking structure that gives the rug its signature slim profile and inherent strength.

The craftsmanship behind this piece is evident in its uniform tension and clean, sharp lines. With a weight of 5.5 kg for a 207 x 132 cm surface, the rug features a significant density of material. This weight is a testament to the generous amount of high-quality wool used during the weaving process, ensuring it lays flat and resists wear.

Every inch of this rug reflects hours of focused human effort. Unlike mass-produced alternatives, the hand-woven process allows for a level of precision and structural integrity that only traditional techniques can provide, ensuring a long-lasting addition to your home.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
