Koliai - A Foundation of Comfort for Your Home

This stunning, one-of-a-kind Koliai rug brings warmth and heritage to your living space. Hand-knotted with care, its rich colours and intricate patterns create a grounded, inviting atmosphere in any room.
This beautiful Koliai rug offers a remarkable tactile experience, with a thick, plush pile that provides comfort and warmth underfoot. The natural fibres create a soft, inviting surface that helps to dampen sound and bring a sense of calm to your home environment.
The intricate design features a central medallion surrounded by a detailed, repeating field pattern, all framed by a bold, decorative border. These elements work together to anchor a room, providing a sense of balance and visual interest that draws the eye and sparks conversation.
As a one-of-a-kind piece, this rug is truly unique. You are not just acquiring a floor covering, but an original work of art that will never be replicated. Owning such a distinct item means you have a piece of craftsmanship that is yours alone, adding personality to your living space.
Originating from the storied weaving traditions of the Middle East, this rug reflects a legacy of skill and design that has been passed down through generations. Its robust construction ensures that it remains a lasting feature in your home, maintaining its beauty and structure through years of daily use.
Koliai rugs originate from the mountainous regions of the Middle East, where they are traditionally crafted by nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes. These rugs are deeply rooted in a culture that values storytelling through pattern, with designs often reflecting the weaver's environment and ancestral heritage.
The term Koliai refers to the specific tribal group responsible for these distinctive rugs. Their work is characterised by a robust construction technique that focuses on durability and thick, resilient piles. This makes them exceptionally practical for everyday life while maintaining an aesthetic that is both rustic and refined.
Visually, these rugs are known for their bold, geometric interpretations of classic motifs. While the central medallion is a frequent feature, the surrounding field is often filled with stylised floral or tribal elements, rendered in a palette of warm, earthy, and vibrant tones that reflect the natural dyes traditionally used by the tribe.
Collectors value Koliai rugs for their authenticity and the sense of history they bring into a modern home. Owning one is an opportunity to connect with a living tradition, where every rug serves as a document of the skill, vision, and cultural identity of the people who created it.
This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and precision. By individually tying each knot onto the foundation, the artisan ensures a durable and dense pile that is built to last, showcasing a level of human dedication that simply cannot be replicated by machines.
Given the substantial size of 310 by 200 cm and the significant weight of 31 kg, this piece represents a considerable investment of time and material. The density and weight are clear indicators of the quality involved, reflecting the focused effort required to construct such a substantial and resilient floor covering.
The creation of this rug is a testament to the artisan's expertise, with every section of the pattern requiring careful attention to detail. This labour-intensive approach results in a final product that feels substantial and premium, offering a level of longevity and character that is inherent to high-quality, hand-crafted goods.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.

Cotton

Cotton is a natural material that makes them a suitable option for people with allergies. The material is soft, durable and resilient, which makes them practical and comfortable for high-traffic areas such as the hallway, kitchen, and bathroom.
