One-of-a-kind
LoribaftHand KnottedWool rug
Black / Dark blue92 x 194 cm

Loribaft - A Deeply Comforting Foundation for Your Home

Discover the tactile luxury of this one-of-a-kind Loribaft rug, featuring a rich, hand-knotted wool pile that brings warmth and character to any room.
This Loribaft rug offers a remarkably plush and tactile experience, defined by its generous 19 mm pile height. Crafted from high-quality wool, the surface provides a soft, cushioning feel underfoot that effectively absorbs sound and adds a layer of natural warmth to your living space.
The deep, saturated tones and subtle variations in the wool create a dynamic visual depth that changes as the light shifts across the room. Because this is a one-of-a-kind piece, the nuanced texture and colour depth are entirely unique to this specific rug, ensuring that no other home will feature this exact arrangement of fibres.
The construction is exceptionally dense, which not only enhances the luxurious feel but also ensures the rug remains resilient and holds its shape over time. This density provides a substantial foundation, making it an ideal choice for areas where you want to emphasise comfort and long-lasting quality.
Originating from a long-standing Middle Eastern tradition of nomadic weaving, this piece carries a sense of authenticity and soul. Owning this rug means welcoming a singular work of art into your home, a piece that will never be replicated and will serve as a grounding element for your interior design for years to come.
Loribaft rugs are deeply rooted in the weaving traditions of the Luri and Bakhtiari tribes of the Middle East. These nomadic groups have historically created rugs as both functional floor coverings for tents and as artistic expressions of their cultural identity, with designs often passed down through generations.
The term 'Baxt' or 'Baft' refers to the weaving process itself, which in the case of these rugs is known for its high-quality, hand-knotted construction. This technique allows for a thicker, more durable pile compared to traditional flat-weave kilims, providing the signature softness and longevity associated with these pieces.
Visually, Loribaft rugs are often celebrated for their open fields and focus on colour rather than complex, small-scale geometric patterns. The deep blue and earthy red tones seen here are classic representations of the rich, natural dyes historically used by these tribes to reflect the landscape of their mountainous homes.
Owning a Loribaft rug is an opportunity to connect with a storied tradition of craftsmanship. These rugs are highly valued by collectors for their honest, unpretentious beauty and the immense skill required to produce them, making each piece a tangible link to a rich, nomadic heritage.
This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused effort to its creation. By tying each individual strand of wool by hand, the weavers achieve a level of structural integrity and pile density that simply cannot be replicated by machinery.
With a total weight of 7.1 kg for its size, this rug demonstrates the substantial amount of premium material and labour invested in its construction. This weight is a direct indicator of the density and quality of the weave, ensuring a durable product that is built to withstand daily use while maintaining its aesthetic appeal.
The precision required to maintain consistent knotting across the entire 194 x 92 cm surface is a testament to the artisan's expertise. This careful process results in a robust, high-quality foundation, proving that the time and human effort invested in each knot are essential to the final beauty and longevity of the rug.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
