The Mashad region in the Middle East has long been celebrated as a centre of exceptional weaving, with a tradition that dates back centuries. The Astan Ghods designation refers to the specific workshops associated with the holy shrine in Mashad, which historically produced some of the most refined and high-quality rugs in the region for religious and royal use.

The construction of these rugs typically involves the use of high-quality Wool, known for its soft texture and natural resilience. The meticulous hand-knotted process ensures that the pile is not only dense but also capable of retaining its lustre and structural integrity over decades of use, a hallmark of professional-grade weaving.

Visually, these rugs are defined by their elegant floral patterns, often centred around a detailed, ornate medallion that radiates outward into a field of scrolling vines and blossoms. The colour palettes are traditionally sophisticated, frequently utilising deep blues and rich beiges that create a calm yet commanding presence within a room.

Collecting a rug from this storied tradition is an investment in cultural heritage. These pieces are highly valued by collectors for their historical significance, the complexity of their design, and the immense human effort required to bring them to life. Owning one is a testament to an appreciation for enduring craft and the history of textile art.

This rug is a product of immense dedication and skill, featuring a traditional hand-knotted construction that requires months of focused labour by expert artisans. The sheer scale of this piece, combined with the precision of its knotting, reflects a level of commitment to craft that ensures both aesthetic beauty and structural integrity.

With a density of 160,000 knots per m2, the craftsmanship involved in this rug results in a remarkably sharp and defined pattern. This high density is essential for creating the fine floral details that characterise the Mashad style, while also ensuring that the rug maintains its shape and pile quality even in high-traffic areas of the home.

The substantial weight of 168.3 kg is a testament to the generous use of premium materials and the density of the hand-knotted foundation. This weight is a direct indicator of the durability and quality invested in the piece, ensuring that it remains a stable and long-lasting feature of your interior for many years.
