Meshkin rugs hail from the rugged landscapes of the Middle East, specifically the region surrounding the town of Meshkin Shahr. These rugs are deeply rooted in the traditions of nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes who have historically lived in the high-altitude plateaus. The harsh, beautiful environment of this region has long influenced the bold and sturdy nature of the weaving found here.

The term hand-knotted refers to the traditional method where individual strands of wool are tied onto the foundation. This technique is essential for creating the distinctive, durable pile that these rugs are known for. By using time-honoured methods, the weavers ensure that each piece has a longevity that allows it to be passed down through generations.

Visually, these pieces are defined by their powerful, geometric language. You will often see large, bold medallions and repeating motifs that draw inspiration from the natural world and tribal symbols. The use of deep reds and dark, moody accents is a hallmark of this tradition, creating a high-contrast look that feels both grounded and sophisticated.

Collecting a rug from this region is an investment in human skill and cultural heritage. These are not merely floor coverings but pieces of art that capture the spirit of the artisans who made them. By choosing a unique runner from this tradition, you are keeping a historic craft alive and adding a piece of history to your own home.

This runner is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and precision. Skilled artisans spend significant time tying each individual knot by hand, a labour-intensive method that creates a superior level of durability and pattern definition that machines cannot emulate.

With a total weight of 16.4 kg, this runner is built with a high density of material that guarantees long-term performance. This generous use of wool and the robust construction of the foundation signify a level of quality and human effort that ensures the rug will remain a beautiful part of your home for many years to come.
