MoudHand KnottedRug

Dark red / Black208 x 316 cm

The Moud rug takes its name from the small town of Moud in the eastern part of the Middle East, a region with a long and storied tradition of textile artistry. These rugs are highly regarded for their ability to synthesise classic design elements with local weaving techniques, often resulting in pieces that are both structurally sound and aesthetically sophisticated.

One of the most notable features of this tradition is the use of high-quality materials and a refined knotting technique. The density of the knots is not merely a technical specification but a mark of quality that allows for the delicate, curvilinear patterns that define the style, ensuring the design remains crisp and clear even after years of wear.

Visually, Moud rugs are often recognised by their elaborate floral patterns and the inclusion of a prominent central medallion. The border patterns are typically well-defined, providing a formal frame for the inner field. This specific rug features a balanced colour palette where the deep blues and vibrant reds harmonise to create a sense of depth and movement within the design.

For collectors and enthusiasts, acquiring a Moud rug is an investment in a living heritage. These pieces are valued for their durability and the skill involved in their creation, representing a bridge between the artistic traditions of the past and the needs of a contemporary home. Owning one is a way to celebrate human creativity and the enduring appeal of traditional floor coverings.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a process that requires immense patience and precision. With a density of 250,000 knots per m2, the construction is incredibly tight, resulting in a robust and durable pile that retains its shape and pattern definition for generations.

Given its size of 316 x 208 cm, the creation of this rug represents hundreds of hours of focused human effort. Each knot is placed individually, allowing for the fine, complex detailing seen in the floral motifs and the sharp definition of the border patterns.

The weight of 24.3 kg is a testament to the high-quality materials and dense construction used throughout. This substantial weight ensures that the rug lies flat and remains stable, reflecting the significant investment of time and resources required to produce a floor covering of this quality.
