The Moud rug tradition originates from the Khorasan province in the Middle East, a region with a deep-rooted history of textile weaving that spans centuries. These rugs are highly regarded for their ability to blend traditional motifs with a refined sense of balance, often reflecting the cultural richness of the region's historical trade routes.

Moud rugs are known for their distinct design language, which frequently incorporates the 'Herati' or 'fish' pattern alongside elaborate central medallions. The use of high-quality wool for the pile is a defining characteristic, chosen for its ability to hold vibrant dyes and provide a dense, soft texture. This combination of material and design results in a rug that is as durable as it is visually captivating.

A key element of these rugs is the careful arrangement of floral and geometric motifs, which often fill the field in a rhythmic, harmonious fashion. The borders are typically wide and well-defined, framing the central design to create a sense of structure. The colour palette often features deep, rich tones, which lend an air of sophistication and traditional charm to the finished product.

Collectors value Moud rugs not only for their aesthetic beauty but also for the skill required to produce them. Owning a piece from this tradition is a way to connect with a long heritage of craftsmanship. It represents an investment in a legacy of artistry, where every rug serves as a silent ambassador of the culture and patience inherent in its creation.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who have honed their craft over generations. The process is one of intense dedication, requiring months of focused labour to ensure every single knot is placed with the utmost precision. This traditional method is essential to achieving the rug's signature density and the sharpness of its complex patterns.

With a total area of approximately 8.08 m2 and a knot density of 250,000 knots per m2, this piece contains over 2 million individual knots. This immense level of detail is what gives the rug its exceptional durability and fine texture. The sheer amount of human effort invested in its creation is reflected in the weight of 29.9 kg, which serves as a tangible indicator of the high-quality materials and dense construction used throughout the process.

The foundation of the rug is built to support this dense, heavy pile, ensuring that the rug maintains its shape and beauty over time. By prioritising traditional techniques, the artisans create a structural integrity that allows the rug to withstand years of use while retaining its intricate design. This commitment to craft is what makes the finished piece a premium addition to any collection.
