MoudHand KnottedRug

Dark red / Brown245 x 350 cm

Moud rugs originate from the city of Mud, located in the southern region of Khorasan in the Middle East. This area has a long and illustrious history of rug weaving, with workshops that have passed down their specialised skills through generations. The region's weavers are celebrated for their ability to produce highly detailed, sophisticated designs that are recognised by collectors worldwide.

A classic characteristic of Moud rugs is their exceptional structural integrity and the use of high-quality wool. The weaving tradition in this region often incorporates subtle silk highlights to accentuate the intricate details of the pattern, giving the surface a delicate shimmer when it catches the light. This careful combination of fibres results in a durable yet remarkably refined pile.

The visual identity of Moud rugs is often defined by two distinct styles, the traditional medallion design and the intricate Herati or Mahi pattern. This particular piece features a beautifully detailed all-over pattern enclosed by a grand, formal border. The harmonious blend of deep red tones and soft beige accents creates a classic aesthetic that brings depth and elegance to traditional spaces.

Owning a Moud rug is an appreciation of Middle Eastern heritage and artistic dedication. These rugs are highly valued not only for their aesthetic beauty but also for their lasting quality. They represent a timeless style of weaving that bridges historical artistry with contemporary living, making them highly sought-after pieces for discerning homes.

This remarkable rug is entirely hand-knotted, a traditional technique that requires immense patience, skill, and time. Every single knot has been tied by hand by a skilled artisan, creating a level of structural integrity and detail that machine-made rugs simply cannot replicate.

Weighing an impressive 31.7 kg and measuring 350 x 245 cm, the substantial weight of this rug is a direct reflection of its dense construction. The sheer volume of high-quality wool used, combined with the tight knotting technique, represents hundreds of hours of focused physical labour, resulting in a heavy, durable piece built to last for generations.
