Black / Dark red132 x 199 cm

Nahavand rugs originate from the historic town of Nahavand in the Hamadan province of the Middle East. This region has a long-standing reputation for producing rugs that are as sturdy as they are visually compelling, often reflecting the rugged beauty of the surrounding mountainous landscape.

The term hand-knotted refers to the technique where each individual knot is tied by hand onto the foundation of the rug. This is the hallmark of quality in rug-making, as it allows for greater complexity in design and ensures the longevity of the pile. The precision of this method is what gives the rug its distinct texture and long-lasting nature.

Design-wise, these rugs are celebrated for their bold, geometric interpretations of floral motifs. You will typically find central medallions surrounded by stylised blossoms, vines, and leaves, all contained within a formal, decorative border. The colour palette often leans towards deep reds and blues, creating a warm and grounded aesthetic that fits beautifully in various home settings.

Owning a Nahavand rug is an investment in cultural heritage and artisanal skill. These pieces are highly valued by collectors for their authentic character and the way they tell the story of their origin through every knot and colour choice. By choosing this rug, you are preserving a craft tradition that has been passed down through generations.

Every inch of this rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who have spent years mastering their craft. This traditional process is incredibly time-intensive, requiring a high degree of precision and patience to ensure every knot is placed with exactness to achieve the final, complex design.

With a density of 160,000 knots per m2, the total knot count for this rug reaches approximately 420,000 individual knots. This high level of density is a testament to the immense human effort and skill required, as a rug of this size and complexity can take many months of dedicated daily work to complete. A higher knot count ensures a more intricate, sharp, and durable design that stands the test of time.

Beyond the knotting process, the substantial weight of 13.1 kg is a clear indicator of the generous amount of high-quality material used in its construction. This density not only contributes to the rug's luxurious feel and durability but also reflects the uncompromising commitment to traditional hand-knotting standards.
