Najafabad rugs originate from the city of Najafabad, located in the central part of the Middle East. This region has a long-standing reputation for producing rugs that are not only beautiful but also exceptionally durable, often incorporating patterns that draw inspiration from the wider artistic heritage of the area.

The term Najafabad refers to both the origin and the specific design style, which typically features a classic medallion at the centre. This design is surrounded by a field filled with complex, flowing floral motifs, often rendered in a way that balances symmetry with the artistic freedom of the individual weaver.

A signature element of this tradition is the use of robust materials and a balanced colour palette, which allows the intricate patterns to remain clear and vibrant over time. The borders are usually as ornate as the centre field, creating a framed effect that gives the rug a formal and structured appearance.

Collectors value these rugs for their ability to bridge the gap between historical craft and practical, daily use. Owning a Najafabad piece is an opportunity to possess a work of art that represents the dedication of generations of weavers, standing as a testament to the enduring appeal of traditional craftsmanship.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a labour-intensive craft that requires immense skill and dedication. The artisan spends countless hours ensuring that each knot is placed with precision, a process that ensures the rug's structural integrity and creates the detailed, sharp patterns that define the Najafabad style.

Given its generous size and substantial weight of 30.4 kg, this rug represents a significant investment of time and material. The density of the construction is what gives the rug its durable pile, ensuring it remains a resilient part of your home for generations to come. This level of craftsmanship is exactly why hand-knotted rugs are prized for their lasting quality compared to mass-produced alternatives.
