Usak - A Piece of Home Worth Keeping

Originating from a rich weaving tradition, this hand-knotted Usak rug brings character and subtle beauty to your floor as a true one-of-a-kind piece.

This spacious indoor rug brings warmth and quiet character to your living room or dining area. Crafted from wool, the pile offers a gentle feel underfoot while maintaining resilience for daily family life. Its low profile ensures furniture sits comfortably across the surface without catching.

The soft palette and intricate tribal motifs create a welcoming atmosphere without dominating the room. Because it is hand-knotted, the rug handles everyday foot traffic gracefully, acquiring character over time while remaining comfortable and grounded.

As a one-of-a-kind piece, this exact rug will never be reproduced. Owning it means bringing a distinct piece of textile history into your home that cannot be found anywhere else.

Woven in Afghanistan, the rug reflects the refined proportions and relaxed elegance classic to the Usak style, offering a enduring foundation for modern or traditional interiors.

Usak rugs, historically associated with the Anatolian town of Oushak, have been celebrated across Europe and Asia since the Renaissance. Renowned for their soft color palettes and large-scale floral and geometric patterns, they became favored floor coverings in grand homes and palaces.

The craft tradition expanded over time, with weavers in regional centers across Afghanistan adopting and refining these classic designs. Using hand-spun wool and traditional knotting techniques, local artisans adapted the Usak style to showcase their own regional weaving skills and aesthetic sensibilities.

Visually, Usak rugs are recognized for their open fields, central medallions, and layered decorative borders. Rather than densely packed motifs, the layout allows the soft background shades to breathe, framing tribal and geometric elements in a balanced, relaxed composition.

Today, Usak rugs are highly valued by collectors and interior designers alike for their ability to soften modern spaces. Acquiring an authentic hand-knotted Usak means owning a piece with deep historical roots that bridges classic heritage and modern interior styling.

Hand-knotted in Afghanistan, this piece represents months of dedicated craft. Skilled artisans place each individual knot by hand, creating a soft yet structured surface designed to withstand decades of daily life.

At 424 x 300 cm and weighing 50.9 kg, the generous scale demands substantial raw material and immense physical patience. The sheer volume of material combined with its careful hand construction gives the rug its satisfying weight and firm lay on the floor.

The human effort behind a hand-knotted piece of this size ensures that the subtle variations in texture and design belong uniquely to this rug, giving it a tangible depth that machine-made alternatives cannot recreate.

Do this

Address spills promptly to minimize staining. Blot the affected area gently with a dry, undyed cloth—never rub, as this may embed the stain further into the fibers.
