Pakistan Bokhara 2plyHand KnottedRug

Brown / Red197 x 288 cm

Bokhara rugs take their name from the ancient Silk Road city of Bukhara in Central Asia, a historical hub for trade and craftsmanship. While the designs have their roots in this storied past, the finest examples today are woven in Pakistan, where artisans have refined the tradition to produce rugs of exceptional quality and consistency.

The term 2ply refers to the construction of the pile, where two strands of Wool are twisted together before being knotted. This technique is vital because it creates a denser, more lustrous, and significantly more durable pile compared to single-ply alternatives. It is this specific construction method that allows the rug to retain its soft feel and rich appearance over many years of use.

Visually, these rugs are defined by their signature gul motifs, which are repeating octagonal or elephant-foot shaped medallions arranged in precise rows. This rug honours that tradition while showcasing a unique colour palette, where the soft pink field provides a modern, gentle contrast to the darker, geometric borders that frame the composition.

These rugs are highly valued by collectors and homeowners alike for their blend of historical significance and enduring skill. By choosing a Pakistan Bokhara, you are acquiring a piece of cultural heritage that represents a long lineage of weaving expertise and a commitment to maintaining traditional design standards in a modern context.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a labour-intensive process that requires significant patience and precision. With a density of 360,000 knots per m2 across its 288 x 197 cm frame, the total knot count reaches approximately 2 million individual points of contact, ensuring a remarkably durable and finely detailed surface.

The investment of time and human skill required to complete such a complex piece is substantial, often taking several months of dedicated work. This high level of craftsmanship results in a pile that is not only dense and luxurious but also structurally sound, providing a level of quality and consistency that simply cannot be achieved by machine-made alternatives.

Beyond the knot density, the weight of 14.2 kg is a testament to the abundance of quality materials used in its construction. This weight signifies a substantial, well-made rug that will lie flat and hold its shape, proving that every inch of this piece has been crafted with a focus on longevity and performance.
