Pakistan Bokhara 3plyHand KnottedRug

Dark yellow / BrownRunner80 x 312 cm

Bokhara rugs take their name from the ancient Silk Road city of Bukhara in Central Asia, a historical hub for trade and textile arts. While the designs have roots in nomadic tribal traditions, the finest contemporary examples are woven in Pakistan, where artisans have refined the style to achieve a level of consistency and softness that is globally recognised.

The '3ply' designation refers to the construction of the pile, where three strands of wool are twisted together before being knotted into the rug. This specific technique is significant because it results in a noticeably thicker, more lustrous, and durable pile. It adds a substantial, plush quality that elevates the rug from a simple floor covering to a tactile feature of the room.

Signature design elements of the Bokhara style include the use of repeating 'gul' motifs—octagonal or diamond-shaped medallions—arranged in orderly rows across the field. These are typically enclosed by complex, repeating borders that frame the composition. This particular runner follows that tradition, offering a balanced and rhythmic aesthetic that creates a sense of calm and order in any space.

Owning a hand-knotted piece from this tradition is an appreciation of heritage and human skill. These rugs are valued not just for their beauty, but for the legacy of craftsmanship they represent. By bringing this runner into your home, you are connecting with a long-standing cultural tradition of textile mastery that prioritises lasting quality and deliberate design.

This runner is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused effort to each piece. By passing each individual strand of wool through the foundation, the weavers create a durable and cohesive structure that is far superior to machine-made alternatives.

With a total of approximately 22,500 individual knots, this rug represents a significant commitment of time and precision. This high knot density is essential for achieving the crisp, clear definition of the intricate motifs and ensuring the pile remains dense and upright, providing both long-term structural integrity and a luxurious tactile experience.
