PatchworkHand KnottedRug

Dark grey / Black196 x 196 cm

The tradition of patchwork rugs finds its most expressive form in Turkey, where artisans have long practiced the art of repurposing and assembling textile fragments. This practice is deeply rooted in a culture that values the lifespan of materials, transforming individual components into cohesive, new designs. It is a creative evolution that honours the history of the materials while embracing contemporary aesthetics.

The term patchwork refers to the assembly of distinct sections to create a unified design. In the context of hand-knotted rugs, this involves selecting segments from different sources and skillfully joining them to form a new, larger piece. This method requires a deep understanding of textile composition to ensure that the final product maintains a consistent feel and structural balance.

Visually, these rugs are defined by their structural patterns and often muted or sophisticated colour palettes. Unlike rugs with flowing floral motifs, patchwork designs lean into geometric precision and the interplay of different textures. The borderless or grid-based layouts often seen in these pieces highlight the individuality of each segment while creating a balanced overall look.

Collecting a patchwork rug is an investment in both heritage and artistic vision. Because these pieces are assembled by hand, they represent a unique bridge between historical craft and modern interior design. Owning one means holding a piece of cultural narrative, where the skill of the artisan is evident in every seam and knot, providing a depth of character that mass-produced items cannot replicate.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans in Turkey. Each individual knot is placed by hand, a process that requires patience and precision to ensure the structural integrity of the pile. This labour-intensive method creates a dense, resilient surface that is far more durable than mass-produced alternatives.

The craftsmanship is further evidenced by the rug's substantial weight of 13.4 kg. This density of material is a direct result of the dedicated work invested by the weavers, who spend weeks or even months bringing the design to life. This weight ensures that the rug lies flat and remains stable on your floor, providing a premium experience that reflects the human effort behind its creation.

The construction process is a testament to traditional techniques passed down through generations. By focusing on the strength of the foundation and the quality of the wool, the artisans create a piece that is built to endure. The final result is a harmonious, long-lasting rug that stands as a clear example of the skill and care involved in handmade textile production.
