PatchworkHand KnottedRug

Black / Brown204 x 256 cm

Patchwork rugs represent a fascinating intersection of modern design and historical preservation. Rooted in the Turkish tradition of repurposing and upcycling, these pieces are born from the desire to extend the life of high-quality hand-knotted textiles. By carefully selecting fragments from older rugs, artisans are able to curate new compositions that celebrate the history of the original weave.

The art of the patchwork lies in the curation of colour and texture. Each fragment is chosen for its unique patina, which often comes from years of use and exposure. This process requires an expert eye to balance the disparate elements into a harmonious whole, ensuring that the final product feels like a deliberate design choice rather than a collection of remnants.

Visually, these rugs are defined by their geometric, segmented appearance. The borders and motifs of the original rugs are often cut and rearranged, resulting in a striking, abstract aesthetic that feels both familiar and entirely new. This modern reconfiguration allows traditional craft to find a place in contemporary interiors, bridging the gap between past and present.

Collecting a patchwork rug is an investment in both sustainability and style. These pieces are highly valued for their individuality and the way they tell a story of renewal. When you choose a patchwork rug, you are preserving the legacy of traditional weaving while embracing a bold, singular design that reflects a commitment to quality and artistic reuse.

This rug is created through a meticulous hand-knotted process that transforms vintage textile remnants into a cohesive, artistic whole. Each individual patch is carefully sourced and stitched together, requiring a high level of skill to ensure the alignment and durability of the finished piece. This method honours the integrity of the original materials while giving them a new, modern purpose.

The craftsmanship is evidenced by the substantial 18.3 kg weight, which speaks to the density of the Wool and the robustness of the foundation. By combining traditional assembly techniques with a contemporary design philosophy, this rug achieves a level of resilience that mass-produced items cannot match. Every seam is reinforced to ensure that the rug maintains its structure and beauty over time.

Creating a piece of this size and complexity involves a significant investment of time and human attention. The result is a durable, high-quality floor covering that balances historical textile tradition with a modern, design-forward sensibility. This is not just a rug, but a testament to the enduring value of human artistry and thoughtful production.
