The Shabargan rug finds its roots in the long-standing weaving traditions of Afghanistan, a region with a storied history of nomadic and village craft. These rugs are deeply connected to the cultural landscape of the Middle East, where weaving has served as both a functional necessity and a medium for storytelling for centuries.

The technique of hand-knotting is the heart of this tradition, requiring a deep understanding of tension and material. By using high-quality Wool, artisans create a pile that is naturally resilient and capable of developing a beautiful, soft patina as it ages, making it a staple for those who value longevity in their home goods.

Visually, this rug draws upon a classic tribal vocabulary, utilising geometric medallions and decorative borders to organise the space. The inclusion of striped sections is a traditional element often found in Afghan weaving, adding a sense of movement and rhythm that contrasts beautifully with the structured motifs found at the ends of the rug.

Owning a piece from this tradition is an opportunity to connect with a legacy of human skill and patience. Collectors value these rugs not only for their aesthetic appeal but for the way they embody the history of a specific region, standing as a testament to a craft that has remained largely unchanged for generations.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a traditional process that requires significant patience and skill. By carefully looping each strand of Wool onto the foundation, artisans ensure a level of durability and density that simply cannot be achieved by machines.

With a density of 160.000 knots per m2, the creation of this rug involves a massive commitment of time and human effort. A piece of this size represents weeks of focused work, where every single knot is tied by hand to guarantee the sharpness of the pattern and the lasting integrity of the pile.

The quality of this craft is further evidenced by its substantial weight of 5.4 kg, which signals the use of premium, dense materials. This weight is a hallmark of a well-constructed rug, providing a stable, heavy feel that signifies its premium status and long-term value.
