Tabriz RoyalHand KnottedRug

Brown / Black202 x 202 cm

The Tabriz rug tradition traces its roots to the historic city of Tabriz in the Middle East, a centre of carpet weaving that has flourished for centuries. These rugs are celebrated for their technical excellence and their ability to draw from a vast library of classical designs, often incorporating intricate floral patterns and central medallions that reflect a rich cultural heritage.

The term Tabriz signifies more than just a geographic origin; it represents a hallmark of quality and artistic discipline. Weavers in this tradition are known for their mastery of complex layouts, often utilising a high knot density to achieve the sharp, fluid lines that define the style. This attention to detail ensures that the patterns remain clear and vibrant throughout the life of the rug.

Signature elements of this tradition include balanced compositions where the central medallion is echoed in the corners of the field, all framed by a wide, decorative border. While the patterns are deeply rooted in tradition, each rug is an individual expression of the weaver's talent, often featuring subtle variations in colour and motif placement that distinguish it from mass-produced items.

Owning a piece from this tradition is an investment in human skill and historical continuity. These rugs are highly valued by collectors not only for their beauty but for the narrative of craft they carry within their fibres. To have a Tabriz in your home is to connect with a long-standing legacy of artistry that continues to be refined and preserved by dedicated artisans today.

This rug is the result of dedicated hand-knotted craftsmanship, a process that requires immense skill and patience. By securing each individual knot by hand onto a sturdy cotton foundation, artisans create a dense, resilient pile that is built to withstand generations of use.

With a total area of approximately 4 m2 and a density of 160.000 knots per square metre, this piece contains roughly 640.000 hand-tied knots. This high knot density provides a more durable and detailed rug that will stay beautiful for many years.

The 16.3 kg weight of this rug is a direct result of the high-density construction and the quality of the materials used. This weight provides stability, ensuring the rug lies flat and remains secure, reflecting the substantial labour and commitment to quality invested by the weaver throughout the production process.
