VintageHand KnottedRug

Dark teal / Blue165 x 275 cm

Originating from the storied weaving traditions of Turkey, this vintage rug represents a long-standing cultural heritage of textile production. Turkish rugs have been celebrated for centuries, serving as both essential domestic items and highly prized artistic expressions that reflect the regional aesthetic of their time.

The term vintage in the context of these rugs refers to pieces that have aged gracefully, often gaining a unique patina and softness that only time can provide. This maturation process enhances the wool, making it feel more supple and comfortable while deepening the character of the colour palette used by the original weavers.

Design elements in these pieces often draw from a rich vocabulary of traditional motifs, though vintage examples frequently feature a faded or distressed appearance that highlights the underlying structure and texture of the weave. This intentional or natural aesthetic shift allows the rug to blend seamlessly into contemporary interiors while maintaining a connection to its historical roots.

Collecting vintage rugs from this region is a way to preserve a tangible piece of history. These items are valued not just for their utility, but for the skill and cultural narrative they embody. By choosing a unique vintage rug, you are honouring a legacy of craft and ensuring that these traditional art forms continue to be appreciated and enjoyed in modern homes.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a labour-intensive process that reflects the dedication and skill of the artisan. By carefully placing each knot by hand, the maker ensures a level of structural integrity and pattern definition that machines cannot replicate, resulting in a piece built to stand the test of time.

The weight of 11.3 kg for this 275 x 165 cm rug is a direct indicator of its substantial material quality and dense construction. This significant weight reflects the generous amount of wool used, ensuring a sturdy foundation and a plush, resilient pile that maintains its integrity even with daily use in high-traffic areas.

Creating a piece of this size and quality requires months of focused effort. This extensive time investment is evident in the finished result, where the precision of the construction translates into a rug that is not only visually striking but also durable enough to serve your home for generations to come.
