Ziegler FineHand KnottedRug

Dark red / Brown183 x 252 cm

Ziegler rugs are rooted in a fascinating chapter of design history that began in the late 19th century. Originally commissioned by the Ziegler & Co firm to meet the tastes of the Western market, these rugs were designed to capture the elegance of traditional patterns while simplifying the palette and scale for contemporary homes of the time.

The term 'Ziegler' refers to this specific aesthetic evolution, which favours a more open, airy composition compared to more crowded historical styles. This approach to design relies on a deep understanding of weave structure, as the balance of the floral motifs requires a disciplined hand to ensure the pattern flows seamlessly across the field.

Signature elements of these rugs include the use of bold, stylised floral motifs and sweeping vines that often appear as though they are floating on the field. The borders are typically formal and balanced, framing the central design to create a sense of harmony. The colour palette is intentionally curated to feel warm and inviting, often utilising soft, natural-looking tones.

Today, rugs from this tradition are highly valued by collectors and homeowners alike for their ability to complement a variety of interiors. They represent a bridge between the complex, ancient weaving techniques of the Middle East and the aesthetic needs of the modern home. Owning one is an investment in a storied craft that continues to be refined by talented artisans.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused effort to its creation. By tying each individual knot by hand, the weavers achieve a level of precision and detail that simply cannot be replicated by automated machinery. This labour-intensive process is what gives the rug its exceptional density and structural integrity.

With 160,000 knots per m2 across its 4.61 m2 surface, this rug contains approximately 737,600 hand-tied knots. This significant investment of time and human skill results in a pile that is exceptionally dense and resilient. The high knot count is directly responsible for the sharpness of the floral patterns and the overall durability of the piece, as it provides a tighter structure that stands up to daily wear.

The substantial weight of 18.9 kg further highlights the quality of the materials and the density of the construction. This weight is a testament to the amount of premium Wool used, ensuring that the rug stays firmly in place while providing a luxurious, heavy feel that signals lasting value and superior craftsmanship.
