It doesn’t matter if it’s an unforgiving Monday at the crack of dawn or a slow Saturday morning without any stress. That moment your feet leave the cosiness of the bed and land on the floor should be a welcoming and pleasant one. A bedroom rug is an unbeatable recipe to achieve that, but you might still feel lost in the world of home decoration. To help get you started, we’ve collected our 15 top bedroom rug ideas below – find the perfect style for your bedroom floor!

1. Cuddly like a cloud

Treat your feet to an extra smooth landing spot beneath your bed with a soft shaggy bedroom rug. The thick pile offers a forgiving surface on chilly mornings, and the rug gives the impression of being as cuddly as a cloud. Depending on your bedroom layout, you can either place a large shaggy rug underneath the bed so that it creates a border to step on or use a pair of shaggy runner rugs on each side of your bed. A soft rug might not mute the sound of your alarm clock, but at least it’ll give your feet a nice start to the day.

2. Calming green tones

A green bedroom rug brings the tranquil hues of nature into your bedroom. Whether you opt for dusty sage, minty pastels or a deep forest green palette, these rugs add a calm and serene atmosphere to your bedroom, making it the perfect choice for your most relaxing room.

3. Classic stripes

If you want to decorate with a pattern without making a big deal out of it, a classic striped bedroom rugis always the way to go. This look pairs well with both a more modern style and a traditional styled bedroom, as striped rugs are available in a variety of colour combinations.

4. Hello darkness!

A darker colour palette can work very well in the bedroom; as it is a room for sleeping, you might not feel like you’re catching the right ambience with too energetic colours. This is your sign to embrace the darkness and welcome a black bedroom rug into your home.

5. Runners – great bedside rug ideas

When it comes to bedroom runner rug ideas, this is one of our favourites! If your room is quite small, a large rug might give the impression that you almost bought wall-to-wall carpeting but missed it by a few decimetres. If that’s not the look you want, bedroom runner rugs are great as bedside rug ideas. This choice will do the job without covering up the floor.

6. Florals for the incurable romantics

To the ones dreaming of flowery meadows, dusty pastel hues and a tiny cottage where your bedroom is your escape from the stressful modern world, this is the bedroom rug idea to embrace. Decorate your floors with a floral patterned rug and match it with soft bed linens and sheer curtains. Are soft pastels, florals and a cosy ambience right up your alley? 7. Double up with layers

No hardwood floors in sight, just wall-to-wall carpeting? Time to double up and add another layer of cosiness to your bedroom! Choose a bedroom rug in complementary colours to pair with your carpet, or use the neutral underlying carpet to frame a more colourful bedroom rug. You can also add a bedroom rug with patterns that pick up the nuance of the carpet to create the impression that they were meant to be together from the very start.

8. Large bedroom rug ideas – maximise the cosiness

Go big and style your room with a large bedroom rug to indulge in warmth and cosiness. A large bedroom rug can be placed partially under your bed to create a balance in the room, and if your rug is extra large, you can place additional furniture, such as a chest or an armchair, on it to tie the room together.

9. zZz… soothing colours

Turn your bedroom into a tranquil haven perfectly made for sleep and relaxation. By adding neutral and calm colours to your floors with a beige bedroom rug or a grey bedroom rug, you’ll create a soothing atmosphere in the room.

10. A match made in heaven

Matching textiles is a great way to create a cosy feeling in the bedroom. When searching for rug ideas for your bedroom, one option could be to choose a rug that mirrors the colours or patterns of your curtains, bed linens, or decorative pillows. This creates a welcoming and coherent look to your bedroom.

11. Small bedroom rug ideas

Does a rug have to be placed under the bed? Not at all! If you have a small or narrow room, you can, for instance, place a small bedroom rug on the side of your single bed where you’re most likely to put down your feet when getting up in the morning, or even place one runner rug on each side of your double bed. That way, you can style the room with more than one rug. Do they have to be identical? Of course not!

12. Make the room yours

It’s fair to say that the bedroom is probably the most private room in a home; therefore, you can go all in to make it your personal realm. Play around with bedroom rugs with abstract patterns, multicoloured bedroom rugs or find the calmness in a single-coloured bedroom rug. Match your personal preferences – this room is yours!

13. Look down at your floors

Depending on your flooring, you can find your bedroom rug inspiration right under your feet. Match your dark hardwood floor with a darker-coloured rug, or create contrasts by choosing a pastel rug that stands out. A light-grey rug may almost disappear on a raw concrete floor, whereas a more colourful option adds an interesting dynamic to the room’s interior.

14. Sweet dreams with natural materials

Bring in the softness and calmness of nature by choosing a rug in natural materials. Bedroom rugs made from wool, cotton or jute are all great options for creating a cosy and tranquil atmosphere in your bedroom. We can’t promise that the material choice alone will keep bad dreams away, but this bedroom rug idea at least offers a good start!

15. Pay attention to the pattern

When looking for a rug that looks good under a bed, you want to pay close attention to the rug’s size and the placement of a pattern. If you’re going for a one-of-a-kind-looking bedroom and place an exquisite unique rug on your floor, you don’t want to find out that the bed covers almost the entire handcrafted pattern.
