A 300 x 500 cm rug — approx 9’10″ x 16’5″ — is a generous, large-scale rug size that works great in rooms at least 4 metres wide. A 300 x 500 rug fits well under a full three-seater sofa or larger with all legs on it, under a dining table that seats 6–8, or in a bedroom with a super king or king bed and borders showing around the edges.

Choosing a 300 x 500 cm rug

A rug this size does a specific job: it ties a large or open-plan space together instead of leaving bare floor, or several smaller rugs, between different areas of furniture. Reach for 300 x 500 cm rug when you need something that runs under a sofa and coffee table and stretches towards a dining or reading corner in the same room, when you’re covering a wide expanse of wood or tiled flooring, or when you want a super king bed to sit fully on the rug with space to walk around it.

Frequently asked questions

A 300 x 500 cm rug covers about 15 square metres, making it one of the largest ready-made sizes we offer. Because the 500 cm side is over 350 cm, it falls within our extra large rugs category, built to define a whole room rather than a single seating area.

This size works best in large or open-plan living rooms (roughly 4 x 5 m and up), living-dining combinations, and generous bedrooms with a super king bed and room to walk around it. In a smaller room it can look oversized, so measure your floor space first.

A 300 x 500 cm rug comfortably suits dining tables up to around 3.6–3.8 m long, seating 8 to 10 people. A flatweave or low-pile construction is the easier option here, as chairs move more freely and spills are simpler to clean. Allow 60–70 cm of rug on each side of the table so chairs stay on it when pulled out.

Wool designs are durable, naturally stain-resistant and easy to maintain across a large floor area – a dependable all-rounder. Cotton is lighter and typically the more budget-friendly choice at 300 x 500 cm.

Low-pile is the practical choice for a rug this large, especially where furniture gets moved or the room sees regular footfall – it’s easier to hoover and keeps its shape. Medium-pile wool is a comfortable all-rounder for living rooms. High-pile or shaggy styles feel softest underfoot but need more upkeep across a surface this size.
